Transfiguration Lesson 6 Year 1 : Fork to Quill

Kitchenware to Study

Welcome

Professor Martina Sterling is roaming around in the Transfiguration corridors, clearly drawing an image. Students see her, and she gets into the classroom along with them. "Good Day, students. Welcome back. Please keep all your quills over here. You would be creating your own quills, so you won't be needing these for today. "

Welcome back students for today’s class! I hope you have passed your midterm exam successfully.

You can retake your midterm exam if you got grades lesser than a 'A', which I hope none of you got.

Today, we will be focusing on the Fork to Quill transformation. I hope all of you enjoy today's transfiguration, as compared to all of them, I thought you might find this one exciting, conjuring something useful for today's class.

Fork

Basically, a fork is an equipment that we use to eat. The first fork was found in Ancient Greece, but Romans were also using it at that time. Records indicate that this also has been found in Persia around the 9th century. Forks are basically used to eat items that cannot be caught by the spoon. Forks can usually be found in any kitchenware. It is made of metal and has several narrow and curved lines in them. There are several types of forks. Some examples are :

  1. Dinner Forks
  2. Dessert Forks
  3. Salad Fork

Today, we would be concentrating on a basic fork, which is available in everyones' houses, The Dinner Fork. As I mentioned before, Forks are made of metals, and have narrow curves in them, to eat foods by pricking them. Go here for the image.

The fork makes a metal like sound, a light one when it falls down. It has a metallic taste and smell, hence made of metal. If you touch the handle, it will give you a cold feeling, and the tip of the fork is very sharp, so beware you may prick yourselves.

Quill

So, I'm sure all of you are familiar with the quill and know it's function. It is used to write on pieces of parchment in the Wizarding World. They are mostly the tips of the feathers of birds.

There are many types of quills of different birds, in different colors. Normally, I prefer to use purple quills with blue and red inks respectively depending on the use. There are quills of different birds too.

You all basically buy a pheasant quill for basics, and it is the classic, most affordable quill in the Wizarding world. I use a special violet backed starling quill, for me, which I got as a present from the Hogwarts Team for becoming the new Headmistress long ago.

They give you no sound when they are dropped to the floor. If you try to smell them, they give you the smell of the ground. The taste will be like hair. To see, pheasant quill, the quill which we will be using today, is brown in color, and a stick, which is white flows through the midribs. Here is the image.

And another fact, we cannot create quills such as the Anti-Cheating Quills, Auto-Answer Quills, Dolores Umbridge's Black Quill, which falls under the exception of magical energy being conjured, so we can only conjure normal quills of any bird.

Invention of Spell

The spell was invented by a journalist, namely, Henry Scatterbolt, who needed quills daily, as he either misplaced his quill daily, or broke his tip, and he was too tired by hearing his wife shouting at having excess amount of forks at home, he invented this spell to give everything a big rest.

The Transformation

Now, I hope you all are ready to cast this spell. You might find this transformation a little more difficult than the last one, because the two items are not interrelated with each other, but never you worry, cast the spell with no fear of failing.

As you all know, have patience, and take a deep breath.

If it fails, then most likely the spell won't work, or instead of the twig in the quill, the tip of the fork may remain.

  • Incantation - Scribblifors
  • Pronunciation - SKRIB-luh-forz
  • Wand movement - A swish at the target
  • Concentration - Moderate
  • Willpower - Low

Now, great job everyone. I hope you enjoyed today's class. There's a mandatory quiz and a mandatory essay for you all today. Today, unlike other days, your essay is not optional, and is mandatory.
