Transfiguration Lesson 4 Year 1 : Introducing Spell Casting Components

Lesson of Transfiguration - Lesson 4 - Another Spell Cast

Welcome

Professor Sterling is waiting for her students, quite impatiently, as she has to explain the students something important. She sees the students walk in, and is excited to welcome them another lesson.

Welcome to the class, students! We shall start now with the spell casting components in Transfiguration. While transfiguration does not have  other spell casting components, other than those you studied in Charms with me and Professor Vansburge, there is just a description and a review. So, no time to spare, let's start with the components!

Incantation: Incantation is the basic important component while you cast spells. We learnt its importance in Charms Class too. The words are mostly originated from the language 'latin' and are modified to be spell incantations. For Transfiguration, they are from latin only.

In subjects such as charms, the incantations may be from Latin, Old Norse, Welsh or any other ancient language. Most modernly developed spells are from Latin. Spells can be cast without incantations too, but you need specalist practice which will be given out in Year 6, and I'm sure you're all thinking this : but you cannot learn that now, as I'm sure you will not be able to cope up with it.

Wand Movement: Wand Movement is another common spell casting component. It is the movement of the wand while casting a spell. Most transfiguration spells have the wand movement as a flick of wand, swish of wand, or point towards the target.

There are many wand movements for many types of spells. Sometimes, precise wand movements depend on the wand core and wood, which are based upon a special combination, that together make the caster special on one category of spells.

Concentration: Concentration is like the brains of the spell. It mostly focuses on the effects of the spell, and its major quality. Transfiguration spells require concentration, and in further years, you will get used to seeing the spell concentration as moderate or high most of the time.

Concentration mainly changes the courage of the person, and the quality of the spell that is to be cast, and is very important. Without concentration, the spell can hit the wrong target, or have wrong effects.

Willpower: Willpower is something that is also known as the physical strength of the body. Willpower is as important as Concentration, as mental strength and physical strength, both are equally important. Willpower mostly handles things such as how long will a spell last. A real life example includes a man holding a big rock. Without some willpower in our body, a person cannot exist.

Willpower mainly focuses on the quantity of the spell, rather than the quality. Every muggle/magical person has some willpower inside them, and some are those who are very weak to show them, in real life challenges too. For a spell, I'm sure anyone can show out willpower.

So, I'm letting you off early, as you need to study for your midterms next week, so best of luck!
