Transfiguration Lesson 2 Year 1 : Introduction to Transfigurative Branches

Professor Sterling is standing down the stairs of the transfiguration classroom. She is waiting for the students there. She sees the students, and opens the door of the classroom and welcomes them in.

Introduction

Welcome Back to another day of your Class! Last Week, we had covered the basics of the information, but now, we shall be covering Transfigurative Branches, and no, they are not the senses!

They are ;

  • Transformation
  • Untransfiguration
  • Conjuration
  • Vanishment

The things highlighted in the purple colour are the four main branches of Transfiguration. See further ;

Transformation

Transformation is one of the Major Branches and which are only know to 1st Year Students, who have not studied yet. It basically includes the transformations such as 'Match to Needle'. There are 3 Sub Branches listed for 'Transformation' too.

  • Human Transfiguration
  • Switching
  • Trans Species Transformation

People tend to consider 'General Transformation' as a part of it, but it has not yet been released by the Ministry, and tends to keep it as a easy practice category, and so do I believe the Ministry. General Transformation is further broken down into four parts, which I did not explain to you on the start. They are ; Inanimate to Inanimate, Animate to Inanimate, Inanimate to Animate, Animate to Animate.

Animate Objects are the objects which are alive, and have lives in them.

While Inanimate objects are objects which do not have lives in them. Please note that plants are Inanimate Objects.

Switching Spells

Switching Spells are spells that can be used in three ways. The first way is to use it to switch the location of an object, the second way is to change the look of objects, and the final way is to change the molecules in a object, and to change it's function. You will be learning it in your third and fourth years. This is known to be a sub branch of Human Transfiguration by some people, but as far as the Ministry is concerned, the information is totally false.

Human Transfiguration

Human Transfiguration is a complex subject, which will only be learnt in your N.E.W.T Years. It involves transfiguring a human into something else, or someone else, such as a Human to a Grindylow.

Trans Species Transformation

Trans-Species Transformation is a sub-type of transformation magic in which one organism is transformed into something a different species.

Animagus Transformations

Animagus Transformations. Animagi are people who have the ability to transform themselves into one particular animal at will, and only people who follow a procedure can be an animagi. You must always register yourselves after the process, or you can be jailed in Azkaban for that! Though Animagus change their full face, have their human mind and brain, some of their features get transferred into their animagi form. Once, in my experience, I met a unusual horse, which was very much fat, and then I got to know it was a animagus of the person, and the person was, indeed fat.

Metamorphmagus

A Metamorphagus is a person, who has the ability since they were born. They could change anything about their look, without using a Potion/Spell. From your hair colour to your nail colour, you could change anything about you. One popular animagus was Nymphadora Tonks ; a member of the Order of Phoenix.

Werewolves

Unlike both of them, Werewolves cannot transform into a Wolf whenever they want, nor they can choose do they want to or not. It is not passed by heritage, but it is passed by a fellow werewolves' bite. They don't keep their human mind when they are transforming into a werewolf. Recently, The Wolfsbane Potion has been invented by Damocles Belby, to allow werewolves to keep their human mind while they have transformed.

Vanishment

Vanishment is a very complex branch of Transfiguration. It is used to Vanish things into thin air, and will only be covered in your 5th and 6th Year. Vanished Objects simply vanish into thin air, when cast the spell.

Conjuration

Conjuration is creating new objects, and making them appear out of thin air. Objects which are conjured only mimic those objects, but they do not have any properties.

Now, now, the time for today's class is up, so I conclude today's lesson with two assignments. Class dismissed!
