Spell Casting Strategies

This is usually taught in the eighth lesson of every year, as it teaches you the strategy to cast all the spells cast in that year. This is taught in Charms, Defense Against the Dark Arts, and Transfiguration. For other classes, there are distinct strategies, such as the potion-making strategy and more. There are two types here too, namely, complemental and implemental spell casting strategies.

Complemental Spell Casting includes first reacting, and then immediately casting the next spell before it takes effect. Nevertheless, in Implemental Spell Casting, the next spell is used after the first spell takes effect. Now, I have characterized spell casting strategy, so now we come to the practical part.

The Wand Lighting Charm: The Wand Lightning Charm is utilized with the help of the Wand Extinguishing Charm to extinguish the light, or the light will remain lightened forever till the energy of the wand decreases. Also, you can use it when someone else casts the smokescreen spell on you(taught in Defense Against the Dark Arts) or to see through your spell. This is complemental spell casting.

The Levitation Charm: The Levitation Charm is used to levitate an object in the sky from the ground, without any physical contact and it can be moved in any direction. It can be used in combination with the mending charm or severing charm. It could be floated in the air, and then cut or repaired. This is implemental spell casting.

Hover Charm: The Hover Charm is not of use frequently and it only levitates objects up and down, and you need to touch it to levitate it in the sky. You can use it first and then cast the levitation charm to provide it a stronger effect on the object. (if heavy) This is complemental spell casting.

The Severing Charm: The Severing Charm, as you all know, is used to cut objects, and is very dangerous, and can be used to cut anything, including an animate object. It can be used in combination with the softening charm, as it is easy to cut soft objects more than hard ones, and would take less willpower. It is a complemental spell.

The Fire Making Charm: The Fire Making Charm is used to generate fire, and it can burn things. It can be used in combination with the Ice Jinx to melt it. The same thing applies to the Ice Breaking Jinx.

The Softening Charm: The Softening Charm is used to soften rough and hard things and turn them soft like a pillow.

The Sticking Charm: The Sticking Charm is used to stick two objects with each other. It cannot be used in combination with any spell.

The Locking/Unlocking Charms: It can be both used in combination with each other. The locking charm locks doors, and the unlocking charm unlocks doors. It is easy to unlock complex mechanical locks rather than magical locks. This is implemental spell casting.

The Ice Jinx

Now we come to the spells of the lesson. This is the ice jinx, and it is used to bring ice and freeze something. It was invented by Felix Summerbee when he was very tired, and when it was very hot, and he could not live up, he invented this spell and turned an object into ice and kept it beside him, and cooled himself down.

It emits out light blue light when cast with the wand movement, a swirling loop towards the object. It can be countered using the Ice Breaking Jinx. The incantation for the spell is Glacio. It requires low concentration and low willpower.

  • Incantation: Glacio
  • Pronunciation: Glea-SEE-oh
  • Wand Movement: A Swirling Loop towards the object
  • Concentration: Low; focused on the effects
  • Willpower: Low

The Summoning Charm

This spell is used to summon any object. It can only summon inanimate objects, but there is an exception for everything, so in the category of animate objects, only flobberworms can be summoned.

This charm was invented by Gideon Flatworthy, the leader of a magical tribe who invented this spell to bring objects quickly. Not much is known about the invention history of this spell, though.

It gives out no light, and the incantation for the spell is "Accio" and the wand movement is a downright curve, with the concentration being low to high and the willpower being the same too.

  • Incantation: Accio
  • Pronunciation: AK-eee-oh
  • Wand Movement: A Downright Curve
  • Concentration: Low to High
  • Willpower: Low to High

Great Uptake for Today! For today, I conclude the class. Class dismissed.
